Timeline

Weeks 1-12:

Weekly classes focusing on styling, cutting, and haircolor skills to cover basic knowledge taught by Keely, our education director, or another senior educating stylist. These classes are built to make sure you can confidently provide traditional services to ANYONE who sits down in your chair. You will be assisting one senior stylist daily to learn real life behind the chair scenarios and how to handle them. Model Test Out Services 3 days a week on learned services. Will assist in closing down the shop daily.

Weeks 13-26:

Model test out services 4 days a week to showcase skill retention. You will be assigned to a group of stylists to learn balance and time management. All test outs must be completed by the end of week 26. Will begin daily tasks to keep the salon running smoothly.

Weeks 27-52:

Client Retention and book building to hit commission. Online booking will open to take non-requests on all services. Stylist will switch to their commission schedule that includes working every other Saturday. A stylist will be assigned to a group of stylists to assist in the event that they don’t have a client in the building and will continue daily tasks.

Week 53:

Stylist switches to commission and no longer assists when their book is busy enough to make more money than when they were hourly. This date can happen faster if your numbers prove you are ready to be set free.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Start to finish the training portion is a max of 6 months, from weekly classes to daily model work. The faster you complete your model test outs, the faster you can work towards being commission. 

  • Test Outs are our way of tracking your progress with performing traditional services. At the beginning of your program, you will receive a digital list of model services that will be graded pass/fail. We have a list of things that we look for including client interaction, formulations, timing, and finished result. Fret not, you WILL fail some. It is normal and allows you to understand where something went wrong or what skill you need to continue to practice.

  • We don’t believe in just throwing you to the wolves to allow you to learn as you go. Once you have taken a class, we want to make sure that you fully understand how to perform that service from start to finish and create a great result. Practice makes perfect and model services are the best way to do that. 

  • We are in the business of building successful hairstylists and are an environment that holds everyone to a standard. If you are unable to complete your personal list of model services before the set deadline (6 months after start date),  it could impact your employment with the shop.

  • While we do have a few clients that will reach out for model services through the salon, we expect you to bring in models via word of mouth and social media advertisement. This is a major part of learning to build your own book.

  • As most trade/hands-on industries, assisting or apprenticing is crucial to learning the true ins and outs of the industry. Assisting stylists who have not only been in the game for a while but also learned by assisting is the best way to fully understand and take note.

  • While we all have one thing that we really enjoy doing or are looking forward to learning a niche, we require our stylists to learn everything during their training program. Fully understanding traditional, well-rounded skills are necessary to excel in advanced services. Once you are commission and your book is sustainable on its own, you are more than welcome to take specialty classes.

  • All of our stylists work full-time behind the chair. During your training, you will work Tuesday - Friday from 8:30am - 7:00pm. Once you switch to your commission schedule, you will alternate between Tues - Fri and a 4 day work week that includes a Saturday. We are closed every Sunday and Monday and every other Saturday so you are guaranteed two 3-day weekends a month.
